About the Authors

Daphne SingingtreeDaphne Singingtree is an educator in plant medicine, midwifery, and emergency preparedness with over fifty years of teaching experience. She attended her first birth in 1974, later practicing as a homebirth and birth center midwife until 2002. She helped establish the Midwifery Education and Accreditation Council (MEAC), help write Oregon’s first direct-entry midwifery licensing law, and served on the Oregon State Board of Direct Entry Midwifery and the Education Committee of the Midwives Alliance of North America.

Daphne founded the Birthsong School of Midwifery, the Oregon School of Midwifery, and Aviva Institute, and is the author of numerous midwifery publications including The Emergency Guide to Obstetric Complications and Training Midwives: A Guide for Preceptors. She is also the author of the speculative-fiction series Circle for the Earth.

Dana Moore, BSM, CPM, LMDana Moore, BSM, CPM, LM is a licensed midwife, educator, and writer with nearly twenty years of experience in homebirth, birth center, and community-based perinatal care. She comes from a lineage of midwives and continues the work of her great-grandmother, who served families in Logan County, West Virginia, for more than forty years.

Dana is committed to compassionate, evidence-informed midwifery and to creating learning environments where student midwives grow with confidence and clarity. As a clinical instructor and curriculum developer, she focuses on trauma-informed teaching, practical skills, and inclusive perinatal care.
